Each ebook vendor (Ebsco and ProQuest, etc.)  has different options and permissions for downloading a chapter or a book:

  •  In ProQuest Ebook Central, you can download just what you need! Typically, you're enabled to download individual pages and chapters as well as the entire book. In some cases of limited availability of a book, it may be limited to 1 or 3 users.

When you download pages or chapters (versus the whole book), you will get a PDF file that doesn't expire. You can search the text, and copy passages for use in your research,  along with a citation in the format of your choice. The number of pages you can download is the same as what you can print to PDF.

This section of this video shows what downloading a JSTOR ebook chapter looks like:

To download the entire book in EPUB format, you'll need the free Adobe Digital Editions on your laptop/desktop, tablet, or phone.

  • In Ebsco eBook Collection or Community College eBook Collection, you have the option to view chapters or the entire book in PDF format or you can download the book.  The length of chapters or downloading a book depends on the publisher's permission. In Ebsco, you can see the publisher permissions, on the left side after clicking on the PDF link. To download the full book, you will need to sign in to your Ebsco account.
