If the ebook from the eBook Collection (EBSCOhost) you want is already "checked out," you can place a hold, to download the ebook when it becomes available.

You will have to create an account with Ebsco (your MyTCC credentials only grant you access to the database; in theory, an account you make can be attached to a personal email and transfer to another library system too) if you do not already have one.

You will encounter this message:

Enter your email address in the field provided and tap the Place Hold button. When the ebook is available, you are notified via the email address you provided and the eBook appears in the Checkouts area of your folder.

Tips for using TCC Library EBSCO ebooks:

  1. Make sure you are using TCC Library's proxied links to the the content. You cannot just google "Ebsco" or "Ebsco ebooks" and attempt to access there. You have to use the links that will recognize your MyTCC login and password. You will be prompted to login if you are not already.
  2. There are currently two (as of May 2024) EBSCO ebook collections at TCC: eBook Collection and the eBook Community College Collection. You can find either ebook collection links in the "Books" or "Articles and Databases" section on the TCC Library website. Their results also appear in the Discovery catalog when doing a search
    • EBSCO ebooks sometimes offer both PDF or EPUB formats. To download the file, select the Full Download link displayed on the left side of the book you want to check out. You'll be prompted to log in to your My EBSCOhost account, or create a My EBSCOhost account if you don't have one (your MyTCC login only grants you access to that specific session; your personal EBSCO account can be tied to a personal email and can transfer to other library systems). For more info: Instructions on how to create a My EBSCOhost account. (Please note that a small percentage of the titles available in the eBook Collection are not available for download.)
    • Once you've logged into your My EBSCOhost account, you can download the ebook. You will need Adobe Digital Editions (and an Adobe account) to open and read the EPUB files. For PDF files, you need the free software, Adobe Acrobat Reader.
