Yes! Not only does the TCC Library offer access to the digital version of The New York Times, (which means students and employees have access to its complete current and archived content both online via the website or via the NYT app through the pass), but we also have NYTs past coverage through our databases. Read on below to learn how to create or use an existing an NYTs account to activate your pass to TCC's subscription.
Looking for a specific article, maybe because you ran into a paywall or saw it referenced somewhere? Try a search using the article title in our Discovery Catalog. Here's an example search of how NYTs content will come up in the catalog. Keep in mind, indexing for databases is not always up-to-date if something was newly published. It may take a while to show up in the catalog/databases if it is a newer article, or there may be an embargo. You can see what databases hold what years of coverage for the NYTs in this Discovery Catalog result for the New York Times under "Access Online" (at the bottom). The TCC Library no longer subscribes to the print version.
Want to activate your NYTs pass?
You can go to this link to create your NYTs account (if you don't already have one), then use this link to activate your Group Pass while on the TCC Network (you must be on campus using a TCC computer) (!) Read "Access Tips" below. (!)
INSTRUCTORS may access the New York Times education site with more features for use in instruction, classes, and research by registering (this is a separate registration, the first time) at - https://www.nytimes.com/edu
Access Tips:
- Make sure you are using a TCC computer on campus to activate your pass. This is what it means to be on the "Network."
- One tip is to set up a New York Times account before activating your pass through TCC with the above link (as of 2023). Creating an account is not the same as subscribing to the New York Times or activating a pass, but rather like signing up for a newsletter/just creating an account you can later add a subscription or pass to. If the registration process asks you to subscribe, you can just skip that step. You can use any email, including a personal one, as this info from the NYTs explains (thus, it does NOT have to be a TCC email you use to create your account or to claim your pass):
- Your NYTs account will be active even after your pass through TCC expires when you leave TCC (but remember you may lose access to your TCC student or employee email at that time if that's what you used to create your account!). You can choose to renew a personal subscription on an account after your pass ends and if you are unable to renew due to no longer being affiliated with TCC. Accounts get you free newsletters and notifications from the NYTs, etc. (such as being sent the headlines) but are not the same as a subscription or pass (actually accessing the articles).
- You will use this same login information to access NY Times content on a mobile app, once/if you've downloaded it to your device.
- Your subscription should look like this in your account:

- Q. My student/faculty New York Times subscription is no longer active. Is there a way to renew my account? Opens in new window
- Q. How can I find an article over a specific topic from a magazine (or other periodical) my instructor has recommended, published within a specific timeframe? Opens in new window
