Students who apply for financial aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are sometimes selected for verification.  The Department of Education (DOE) regulations state that students can no longer submit a copy of the original 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ.  If a student is selected for verification then the financial aid department is required to request a tax transcript from the student and/or the parent(s) listed on the FAFSA.  For further information on how to obtain a tax transcript visit the IRS website.
